The Fat Liberation Parenting Workshop is a virtual 2-hour workshop offering an opportunity to learn, reflect, and connect with other parents around how we raise resilient kids in a world that is fat-phobic and what we want for our kids’ relationships with us & their weight, body, health.
What can you expect?
I’ll do some teaching so we have the same understanding about fatness, weight, health using principles from Health at Every Size®, disability justice, and attachment theory.
We’ll have time for individual reflection about what we want for our kids’ development, our relationships with them, and the world they’ll live in.
We’ll explore the ways that the systems families interact with can create or reinforce stigma and discrimination.
Together, we’ll identify resonant practices to support us in engaging with and advocating for fat liberation.
My groups and workshops always have a foundation in anti-oppression principles, center the most marginalized, and are trauma-informed.
What you won’t encounter in this workshop:
Diet Talk: no advocating for intentional weight loss, dieting, or “weight management programs” for children (or adults).
Therapy: while I’m a therapist, this is not a therapeutic group and there won’t be any diagnoses, therapeutic interventions, or advice about individuals or families.
Judgment or Shame: my goal is to create a supportive, non-judgmental environment and I recognize that every family is unique.
Easy Solutions: Sorry, I wish I could! But, this workshop will offer information, opportunities for values exploration and reflections, and engagement with community.

FAQs
What’s the difference between this workshop and the Connections group?
There are two main differences. The Fat Liberation Parenting workshop includes some “teaching” and information sharing from me; the Connections group is facilitated by me but is a time of community building and sharing. There might be overlap in both directions, but I primarily think of the Workshop as a learning event and the Connections group as a connecting event. The other important difference is that the Connections group is only for fat parents and caregivers. The workshop is open to folks of all sizes who are parenting.
I’m not sure if I’m the target audience, but I’m interested…
